Risk för att fler röster tystnar…

”När protesterna kräver att de svenska universiteten ska ‘avsluta allt akademiskt samarbete med Israel’, som det står på en av banderollerna på Stockholms universitet riskerar det att bli kontraproduktivt.”

Det skriver journalisten Somar Al Naher i dagens Aftonbladet. Snälla, bryt inte kontakten med israeliska akademiker, är hennes vädjan. Hon avslutar sin krönika väldigt klokt och insiktsfullt:

”Den israeliska och palestinska fredsrörelsen är alltför ofta osynliggjord, både i Israel och i Sverige. Vi riskerar att bidra ytterligare till att tysta de rösterna.”

Även om det stycket nedan främst handlar om forskning om havets ekosystem kan det ha bäring på forskning och samarbete mellan forskare överhuvudtaget:

”Great progress has been made in promoting a more open scientific attitude. However, scientists are no much different from other people. Like most people, they seek personal and group benefits. The scientific process further includes many self-regulatory mechanisms to correct incorrect information. The most distinguishing characteristic of valid science is reproducibility. If researchers from different research groups cannot reproduce new results, they must conclude they are invalid. Therefore, open communication and free information flows are fundamental to all attempts to explore the unknown, which also applies to literature, art and dreams ”
